Waldo

Full of charm and friendly neighbors, this entertainment district is as pleasant as it is lively, thanks in part to the diverse collage of nightlife, Kansas City history and family-friendly activities.

Things to Do

Things to do

The perfect neighborhood complement to a bustling city, Waldo plays host to events and festivals fit for people of all ages. Lace up your running shoes for the Trolley Run, an area tradition that traces the historic streetcar/trolley tracks and is the largest timed four-mile road race in the country. Plan to visit during Waldo Fall Festival, a free event with live local music, food trucks and tons of activities for kids, ranging from face painting to yard games. Tour a restored landmark of westward expansion, the Alexander Majors Historic House & Museum, the antebellum home to the father of the Pony Express.

kansas city bier

Locals love lounging at Kansas City Bier Company, a resident brewery with a German-style biergarten, or an outdoor patio that touts taps and tastes ideal for a summer or fall day. Climb aboard Pedal Hopper, a European-style party bike that seats 16 and makes pit stops at preselected destinations so that pedalers can grab a drink and take a load off.

Where to shop

bakery

Quirky gift shops and handmade knickknacks color the shopping scene in Waldo. Eclectics Gallery, an artists’ co-op established in 1991, features handcrafted art and gifts for sale as well as meet-and-greets with local artists.

Visitors looking for cookies, pastries or cakes need look no further than bread bastion McLain’s Bakery, a KC institution since 1945. The shop also operates as a café, serving delicious lunch and dinner options, along with coffee roasted right here in town.  Funky accessories are in abundance at Hiles Two, a local gift store situated right on Broadway Street.
